Open the dot template file, I don't mean double clicking on the dot file, I actually mean open Word then use File Open and navigate to the template and open it. Now double click in the header area of page 1. You'll see on the Ribbon a 'Header and Footer' tab open right next to the Home tab. In the Header and Footer tab is a group called Options and in that group area is a checkbox labeled 'Different First Page', check that box. Now you can set the first page header & footer to what ever you want and clear out the header for the second page of the template.
